The definition of fear, per dictionary.com means to be afraid of something or someone as likely to be dangerous, painful or threatening. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary defines fear as an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger; anxious concern. Many of us fear for different reasons, such as failure, the unknown and judgement. Let's explore each one of these individually.
1. Fear of Failure
Fear of failure can cause a person to stop doing what is needed in life in order to be successful. Basically, it stops you from being "great". For example, if there is a business idea, but you become fearful of trying to move forward and get the business off the ground for fear of failing. Another example, is staying at a dead end job. Staying somewhere for 10 years do to fear of trying something new causes a person to be stagnated. Fear can also damage relationships. Many people are afraid of being in a committed relationship for fear of failing in the relationship. My advice for these fearful people is to step out on faith and not let this fear take them out.
2. Fear of the Unknown
Fear of the unknown is a fear that can paralyze you mentally. This fear occurs every time we come across an unfamiliar situation or circumstance. This particular type of fear has the ability to make you miss out on many important opportunities because not being able to step outside the box. The trick to get out of this type of fear is to recognize it and confront it head on. Understand that fear is a natural emotion, but it doesn't have to control your life.
3. Fear of Judgement
Why care what other people think about you? Only people who don't care about judgement can answer that question easily. This particular type of fear causes people to worry about how others perceive you. People become consumed with their clothes, hair and shape. You forget to live your life and enjoy everyday as if it's your last. In order to rid yourself of this particular fear, we must remember that judgement is merely based on the opinion of others and we cant let that opinion dictate the ability to function.
Will you let fear continue to run your life? How will you respond the next time an unexpected challenge arises? Will you meet your circumstances head on or will you let them knock you out? Hopefully, this will give you something to think about.
